Effective August 1, 2020, Community Health Systems, Inc. (CHSI) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Denis Vega Tapia to the position of Chief Operating Officer (COO).
As COO, Mr. Vega Tapia will provide leadership and strategic direction to CHSI. He has graciously assumed this new role during a global public health crisis, where it’s more important than ever to provide access to critical and necessary health services to our communities in the Counties of Riverside, San Bernardino, and North County San Diego. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), he will guide the organization’s development and continue to enhance the delivery of high quality health care services. Mr. Vega Tapia will expand CHSI’s external relations with Chief Business Officers, Clinic Consortia, State and National Primary Care Associations and government officials.
Through his unwavering tenacity, Mr. Vega Tapia constructed a Community Relations Department expanding access and reach to thousands of patients since 2013. In addition, as the Director of Business Initiatives and Governmental Relations he established the 340B Contract pharmacy program, facilitated the development of the Organization-wide 5–year Strategic Plan, orchestrated a compliant HRSA Operational Site Visit, and incorporated new lines of revenue through chiropractic services and population health management. During these unprecedented times, Mr. Vega Tapia has kept the Executive team apprised of COVID-19 health policy changes, adapting new service modalities and allocating diverse funding opportunities.
During his 7 year tenure at CHSI, he graduated from the regarded Clinic Leadership Institute Program at the University of California, San Francisco. With a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from California Baptist University, and a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from the University of California, Riverside, Mr. Vega Tapia brings a deep understanding of community health management fused with a passion to serve his community. He is a two-time recipient of the prestigious Jake Kent Cooke Foundation Scholarship as both an undergraduate and graduate student.
